High Speed Wireless Internet

Who are we?

AlbertaHighSpeed continues to be Central Alberta's only locally owned and operated Wireless Internet Service Provider. Our offices and Network Operations Center are located in here in Central Alberta - near the people we serve. Our goal has always been to "keep it local", using resources from our Community and giving back to our Community.

Our High Speed Internet connection is available to both residential and commercial customers.  We currently have 15 unique broadcast locations within our wireless network. Check our accessibility map for coverage details.

New for 2010...

AlbertaHighSpeed has now expanded coverage West in Ponoka County!

With three new towers in place our Wireless coverage now reaches areas West of Rimbey, West of Hoadley, North of Bluffton as well as North of Crestomere!.

Are Site Assessments Necessary? Are they Free?

With directions you provide on our Online Sign Up form, we can use software tools and satellite information (actually, Google Earth) to accurately determine if there are obstructions in the view from our towers to your location. While GPS coordinates are best, we can still do an accurate path study using your Legal Land Location. This means we can judge the success of a link without you having to wait for an installer to make a site visit.

And, if we are not certain of the success of a link, we will still visit your house and check - for free. We only ask that you are patient as we juggle our schedules to fit assessments between installations.

Contracts?... Are they required?

There is no need to sign a contract when connecting to AlbertaHighSpeed. We believe that not only should you be free to evaluate our services, but that it is our responsibility to keep our customers content rather than trap them with a contract or with fine print.

That being said, we have been asked many times for a mechanism to reduce initial setup costs. Contracts are now available on the basis of one or three year terms - reducing the cost of installation significantly.

The choice is yours. You can view a copy of our agreement here

Questions about Radio Frequecies (RF)?

AlbertaHighSpeed uses equipment in the unlicensed spectrum of RF - specifically, 2.4 GHz, 5.7 GHz. 5.2 GHz, and 900MHz. By using unlicensed frequencies, we are able to reduce our equipment costs considerably. This ultimately leads to savings for the consumer.
Many companies claim that their use of licensed frequencies in their equipment will guarantee that they are free of any interference.

This is a bold statement. Using licensed frequencies does not imply that the frequency is exclusive, only that it is regulated. What this means is that you will not find 3.5 GHz and 3.65 GHz frequencies used in small consumer devices such as baby monitors, cordless phone handsets, and garage door openers. What you will find however, is licensed frequencies in use by other Fixed Wireless Service Providers. Local providers such as XplorNet, YourLink, Platinum Communications, Bell, and Telus all make use of some licensed spectrum of RF. And all must work very hard together to mitigate interference.

Be sure to be wary of clever advertising that may be misleading.
